iPod versions and playlists

Playlists which work directly on the iPod Nano or iPod Touch do not work (will not import) into iTunes with an iPod Classic connected.

The iPod Nano and iPod Touch are basically iPhone without the phone. The iPod Classic is a different device altogether.

Creating playlists with iTunes (on a connected device)

The workaround to get the Bible to play in order is really simple, but a bit time consuming:

a. With the device connected, highlight the device in iTunes.

b. Create a new playlist for each 'set' of books you want. In the case of the customer, I created 66 playlists. The playlist must be named in numerical order; e.g. 01_Genesis, through 66_Revelation or the playlists will be out of order

c. Drag the folder, for example, of 01_Genesis from the unzipped files to the 01_Genesis playlist. Depending on how you drag them in, you may need to reorder them.

d. As you create and populate the playlists, the files are added to the device "Music" category and transferred directly to the device. (Hint, you don't add them to iTunes "Library" but rather directly to the device through iTunes.)
After you have completed the above process, the user can access the playlists and books in order through the menu:

"Music"->"Playlists"->01_Genesis through 66_Revelation.

Creating an iPod menu

You can also create an interactive menu using the "Notes" feature of iPod.

"Extras"->"Notes"

Such a menu can either point to one of the playlists above, or if you created a rather extensive menu, you could have a menu for each book with each of those menu items pointing to one of the mp3 files.
There are a number of online resources which will assist you if you wish to investigate using "Notes" to create a menu. One website collects a few of these on one page for easy reference is listed below and is provided "as-is":
